Puppy package

Our puppy grooms are generally designed for puppies aged 3-6 months old as a gentle introduction to grooming. These are available to book one session at a time. We understand that some puppies will need a little bit of extra help before they are truly ready to take the plunge of their first full grooming appointment. Therefore we have tailored a package that will give your little one the best start on their grooming journey.

Whats included?

Meet & Treat:

Welcome to the salon

Initial consultation & welcome pack

(usually 15-20 minutes)

A chance for you and your puppy to visit our salon and meet your stylist for an initial consultation without any pressures or expectations. This will allow us to understand more about you and for us to explain the services we provide. Your puppy will be allowed to roam the salon which will allow us to observe your puppy's behaviour so that we will be able to tailor your future appointments to accommodate your puppy's emotional and physical well-being. We want to make grooming a positive experience. If you would then like to register with us, we will fill out the relevant paperwork, schedule your future appointments, if you are able to do so, and you will leave with a welcome pack tailored for your puppy.

Meet & Treat:

Bonding and desensitisation

One to one session for your puppy and stylist

(usually 30-40 minutes)

A chance for your puppy to spend time at the salon with their stylist for a one to one experience. Your puppy will be allowed to free roam the salon to smell and investigate the different areas and equipment. We will begin to use positive reinforcement with treats and toys to desensitise them to the sights, smells and sounds of our equipment without the added pressure of grooming. We will then take them for a very short walk outside the salon to allow them to experience a different space and to build confidence entering and exiting the salon. At the end of the session we will have playtime with toys and treats to make the experience fun!

Three puppy grooms:

Your first session

Bath, blow dry, brush, nail clip, ear clean,

sanitary trim, feet and face tidy if applicable.

(approximately 60 minutes)

You then have the option of three puppy grooms which we suggest are booked for monthly intervals at 3, 4 and 5 months. These sessions usually last on average one hour, however we may choose to extended or reduce that time if we feel its necessary. We never expect puppies to be completely accepting of the process, especially on their first session, so if we feel as though it may be too stressful we will adapt the session as your puppies trust and confidence in us is the most important aspect. In some cases we may suggest coming back another day to finish anything we are unable to do.

It is important not to expect too much from your puppy's first groom. The puppy grooms and meet and greets prior to this appointment will have had a great impact of building your puppy's confidence and trust in our salon, but the full groom process can still be a little bit scary. We never expect your puppy to be perfectly behaved and we will not rush your puppy through the process which is why your first full groom appointment is usually longer than you may expect.

For long haired puppies that will require a haircut the first grooming appointment usually lasts between 2-3 hours. We always strive to give you the best haircut we can provide but we will prioritise your puppy's well being first and foremost. Puppy hair (especially poodles and poodle cross breeds) is often a different texture at a young age to what their coat will be like at a more mature age, as such the first cut can sometimes seem not as neat. You may find that after a couple of haircuts your puppy's hair will start to change and develop different textures or colourings- this is normal for most breeds. The grooming process is often a learning curve for everyone involved, if next time you would like to go shorter or longer, we can usually accommodate to meet your requirements as long as your puppies coat condition and behaviour allows it, we will always be honest if we feel as though we can not meet your grooming expectations. After your puppy's first hair cut we recommend maintaining a regular grooming schedule which is normally 6- 8 weeks to help maintain your puppy's skin and coat condition, as well as helping to continue confidence building.

For short haired dogs your puppy's first groom will be similar to the puppy grooms your little one has already experienced here. We may wish to extend the grooming time as your dog grows and develops but these appointments will normally average at about 1 hour. We suggest not bathing more than once every 4 weeks but it is ultimately your decision, although we would suggest maintaining a regular schedule for what you decide for optimum skin and coat condition.

  • Treats are used for positive reinforcement for desensitization to grooming. Please notify us of any potential stomach issues or food allergies on your first meet and treat and if you are currently using different value treats.

  • If your puppy has a favourite toy please bring this with you as it will provide scent comfort after you have left the salon.

  • At home try and brush your puppy from as young as possible. Little and often normally works better as most puppies have a short attention span and get tired quickly. Brushing on a higher surface such as a table top can make grooming easier than trying to wrestle them on the ground where they usually play.

  • If you are unsure on your brushes please feel free to bring them to your appointment and we would be happy to advise the correct tools.

  • It is useful to practice handling your puppy at home. Feet and legs are most commonly not tolerated by dogs so this area is particularly beneficial for early handling. Always use positive reinforcement and reward calm behaviour.

  • A silver spoon is useful for desensitising puppies to scissors without the risk of a sharp object. practice holding your puppies chin and moving the spoon slowly around the eyes and side of their face, giving them a treat when they choose to ignore the object.

  • Please always send us a message if you have any questions regarding grooming for your puppy. Some dogs will need grooming for their entire lifetime so its incredibly important to ease them into it positively at a young age. We will always adapt to suit your puppy's needs to ensure the very best experiences.
